The great pantyhose debate

July 22, 2008

Kim Crow, Style Editor for Cleavland.com  weighs in on the great pantyhose debate. The column is about pantyhose and only pantyhose, the sheer nylon standbys — not tights, not opaque stockings, just your regular pantyhose.

My comment to the post was:

Finally a reasonable idea. I get why some hate hose. However it is usually because:

1. Pantyhose most women buy are too cheap. I find the poor quality pantyhose don’t feel as go on as the premium brands do.
2. Too small, so you have that incredibly annoying gap all day or you ruin them just trying to get them into place.
3. Your legs are not properly groomed. It’s not the pantyhose that make your legs itchy it’s the hair on your legs being pushed back against your skin.
4. Color is not right for you. Go to a hosiery boutique or order the exact ones you need online. Order a bunch so you don’t have to go running to the drug store at the last minute.

For me I couldn’t go out the front door with some of the bare leg looks I have noticed in public recently. I’m finding that the casual dress thing at work (or in public in general) has gone just a little too far.

While on a business trip a while back to a large computer company, I was surprised at the casualness of dress buy both women and men. Truly, I wouldn’t go out to the local coffee shop in what I was witness to. Men showing up at work in flip flops and shorts with super hairy legs and yucky toe nails. Women in skirts showing legs that shouldn’t be bare and vein popping feet crammed into pumps that should be trashed. That’s not just too casual, it’s unprofessional looking.
